COPICAD (Community Organization for Positive Impact, Care and Development) is a registered community-based organization in Kenya operating in Nyandarua County. Founded in 2009 as Huduma CBO and rebranded to COPICAD in 2017, the organization has remained committed to building better empowered communities through inclusive, gender-sensitive leadership — distributing over 100,000 tree seedlings, training over 600 caregivers and public health officials, and engaging in community welfare activities.
At COPICAD, restoration is not only about planting trees — it is about growing forests, restoring ecosystems, and empowering communities for generations to come. The organization is currently leading the Olbolosat Forest Restoration Project in the Gatimu area of Lake Olbolosat Forest, with a target of establishing 18,000 indigenous trees. Previous restoration sites in Huhoini, Busara, and Gikingi have achieved over 90% tree survival rates, demonstrating the effectiveness of COPICAD's community-driven approach.
By planting indigenous species and engaging local communities in every phase of the restoration process, COPICAD creates lasting environmental and social impact. The restored forests protect critical watersheds, enhance biodiversity, sequester carbon, and provide sustainable resources for surrounding communities — proving that grassroots conservation can achieve remarkable results when communities are at the center of the effort.
