About Eclipse Foundation
The Eclipse Foundation is a non-profit based in Brussels, and it has been the home of open source collaboration for more than twenty years. It hosts more than 450 projects and over 15,000 contributors, with more than 300 member organizations and twenty-plus industry collaborations behind the work.
Events are a large part of how it does that. It runs a flagship conference each year and dozens of smaller community days, and it keeps a booth at the big developer gatherings, where foundation staff and working-group members meet the people who use and build on its projects.
“We are a community of communities, bringing together developers, organisations, and innovators from around the globe to share knowledge, collaborate openly, and turn ideas into lasting real-world impact.”
Published by Eclipse Foundation on its own sitewww.eclipse.org ↗Why they added impact
A conference booth runs on giveaways. The foundation’s own booth write-ups mention a raffle and a spin-the-wheel for swag, and most of what a booth hands out is carried home and forgotten. For one campaign it wanted something that would outlast the conference.
So a visitor to the booth gets a tree planted in their name. The foundation describes itself as a community of communities, and the gift fits that: it is small, it is personal, and it keeps growing after everyone has flown home.
There was nothing to wire in. The foundation has no checkout or signup for a tree to hang off, so it used Make Impact gifting. A name and an email at the booth, and the certificate follows.

Trees only, from two Trees for the Future projects: forest gardens in Tanzania and the Forest Garden Program in Uganda. Both plant mixed gardens the families tending them eat from, and the species mix below is mostly agroforestry and nutritional trees.
Each gift goes through Make Impact, so there was no code to write and no integration to maintain. The recipient gets a certificate for the tree planted for them.
The full breakdown is below: both projects, the country each is in, and how many trees the foundation has funded there.
